GIA is back!

Ghosts is being quiet for the last months but it has kept growing. This year the project will be extended to Bilbao. New art pieces will be produced for an exhibition in December in Spain with interesting collaborations still to come. We will keep you updated!
Next July some of the art pieces will be on display at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea. But we will give you more details soon.

Thanks to Armin, Manel and James for an amazing night of projections in a derelict colliery in the valleys. Matt & Jani.

Beautiful Ghosts Review by Chris Paul

Blame Thatcher. Blame Reagan. Blame neo-liberal capitalism. Or write
the whole thing off as unavoidable- there are always losers. Either
way Welsh industry declined. The powerhouses of empire faded away to
shadows, then the shadows themselves began to waver.

The Ghosts in Armour exhibition currently at the Riverfront Theatre,
Newport, captures this decline through the lens of the now defunct
Whitehead steelworks. Photos, memory, lyric, and industrial artifacts
are installed into a basement space in form of a mutli-media
exhibition, transforming it into a witness of the loss and nostalgia
apparent across South Wales as a result of economic decline.

While further exploration of the subject's textual elements could
perhaps have been possible this exhibition captures the shifts and
echoes of welsh industry- ghosts in armour indeed. The overall
aesthetic results of the featured artists' investigations are both
impressive and thought provoking, evocative of a tangible absence.

Special Newpart Showcase Announced Friday 10th October 9pm - 2am

Hey everyone,

It is our great honour to announce that in conjunction with the wonderful people at Newpart and with the support of the University of Wales, Newport and it's Student Union we have one hell of a night of entertainment organised for your pleasure.

Newpart are passionate about promoting local artists and renowned for their ability to turn any unsuspecting venue into an arty mash up. With The Courtybella Club allowing special access one more time why not enjoy the free program of Ghosts in Armour events at the Riverfront and follow it up by joining us for a drink with the ex steel workers at this amazing location.

The Last Party saw 60 year old steel workers dancing with the art crowd well past 2am to the best reggae beats supplied by the Revolutionary Brothers and MC Konsul who flew in especially from Bilbao.

If you were unlucky enough not to be there then make sure you join us this time for the amazing psychedelic sounds of The Keys, DJ Sets from Bristol's DJ Vallee, Dubstep and Garage from Newport's own Tom Servo, Live Painting by Graham Philips & Burlesque by the lovely Lady Confessions. To cap it off we also have Sweaty Pheasant performing a unique Ghosts in Armour Set with live visuals supplied by CrandMasterFlash.

Standard entry is just £4 but for students or newpart members all this can be yours for the paltry sum of just £2 (which is less then the price of a Courtybella house double!)

Tickets can be purchased for this unique night in advance from the Staff at the Ghosts in Armour Exhibition in the Basement Gallery at the Riverfront, Bristol Packet Quay, Newport.

(And hurry cos we're limited to 200!)

Student Private View Friday 10th Oct 5pm - 9pm

'Ghosts in Armour' is going to China

Steel spectres will be on display in Beijing Today Art Museum from the 27th Sep to 12 Oct. The images selected document a series of site specific projections of found photographs of the workers at Whiteheads.

a big thank you!

We would especially like to say a big thank you to all the ex-workers involved in the project so far. Through their own individual donations of time and memories they have allowed us to understand how the work environment was like and to create a much deeper narrative to the project. We look forward to seeing you all again soon at the private view.

demolition

We knew it was going to happen soon but it is weird when you see it is true. By September Whiteheads will be gone, just on time to take its traces into The Riverfront. It is not just a building, it is 100 years history that are being taken into pieces... but its essence will be treasure forever.
We'll keep updating about the project.

New 3D Visualisation of Ghosts in Armour at the Riverfront

Once again, many thanks to Seltz Design. Nice work Armin

This short visualisation has been created as an initial concept for the Ghosts in Armour show to be held at the Riverfront between the 5th of September and the 17th of October. Created by our good friend Armin from Seltz Design. We will be working with Armin closely to aid in the Curatorial process as well as using his unique skills to aid in the transition of all the Art pieces into a multimedia format, increasing the works artistic scope and ultimately its accessibility to all.

WE NEED YOU!

Hi Everyone,

Here at Punctum we are committed to creating one of the most interesting and thought provoking visual exhibitions ever to hit Newport and beyond, However to grasp the amazing opportunity we currently have and transform the hard work already put in by so many to realise the show, we now need your help. If you feel you can bring something to the exhibition or help in some way we are keen to hear from you. Likewise, if you would like to become an official friend/supporter of the show we have an account set up purely for the development of the show.

To help make the kitty grow we are also offering a free limited edition signed A3 print to the first 30 donations of £50 or more. All donator's should be aware that 100% of your gift will be used directly to increase the scope and scale of the works created and through the development of our education program and interactive web content facilitate the show to reach a much wider audience .

Still Thinking? well if a free print or the warm fuzzy feeling you'll have inside after donating isn't enough to start digging deep then don't forget all supporters, big or small, will be recognised for their support in our catalogue.

To donate or just chat about the project please drop us a line at ghostsinarmour@gmail.com or alternatively call Matt on 07734 471 356

kindest regards

WrightGeorge Float Site Specific Sphere at Godins

WrightGeorge Push Visual Boundaries for Ghosts in Armour with their first site specific floating photosphere.

This week Matt Wright and Chris George collaborating as WrightGeorge were delighted to display their two metre diameter floating photosphere back on site in the exact position from which it was shot.

The Helium Filled Photograph was displayed back in its place of conception from Monday to Friday of this week to represent an average working week. Forming the key piece created for Ghosts in Armour by WrightGeorge the photosphere represents the furthest development so far by the creative duo. Forcing the viewer to question the physical boundaries of the medium of photography the sphere on site forces the viewer to the outside of a view both mentally and physically. The occasional alignment between the viewer, the sphere and its environment creates a symbiotic disharmony between our perception of time and space. The documentation and sphere itself will be displayed within the Ghosts in Armour Show at the Riverfront later in the year.
